Prerequisites:

Docker requires two crucial installation prerequisites:

  1. It can only be installed on 64-bit Linux systems.

Open a terminal window and use the “uname -r” command to view your current kernel version:

$ uname -r
5.15.0-69-generic

The Kernel version should be 3.10 or greater. mine kernel version is 5.15.

$ sudo snap install docker

$ sudo apt  install docker.io

This will install docker on your machine. Now check the version of the docker.

$ docker --version
Docker version 20.10.21, build 20.10.21-0ubuntu1~20.04.1

Now check the status of the Docker to see whether it is running or not.

$ sudo systemctl status docker

If it is disabled then use this command

$ sudo systemctl enable --now docker

This will enable the docker status. Now create your first image.

$ sudo docker run hello-world
Unable to find image 'hello-world:latest' locally
latest: Pulling from library/hello-world
2db29710123e: Pull complete
